The first restaurant that Barb and I hit after coming north had to be Guru’s. Naples has started to get a couple of new Indian places this year. There has also been a very upscale Indian restaurant for a few years. We’ve been there twice and in all fairness the food was quite good. It simply lacked the family, down home feeling we get at Guru’s. Also the bills got pretty high.
The manager/owner/hostess/sometimes cook at Guru’s is Preeya. She’s always happy, sweet and helpful. She guides newbies through the menu and turns her regulars onto new and different dishes. She’s always eager to please the customers. Last night I gave her a hug and then went to town ordering dishes I have missed for the past year.
We started with the Spinach Chaat, a room temperature dish of crispy spinach, tomatoes and onions. I got so excited when it arrived that I dug right in and forgot to take a picture.

I was simply too full last night to enjoy their world class smooth and creamy Rice Pudding.
They have a full bar and reasonably priced wine list, so no need to BYOB. The portions, though not huge, are very generous and we never walk out hungry. Everything they bring to the table is absolutely delectable. Every member of the staff is friendly and thoughtful.
I give Guru’s my highest recommendation for a casual, delicious and down home experience. I’m looking forward to the end of the pandemic so they can restart their wonderful lunch buffet.
