Vida and Comida in Ambler, PA

I’ve been wanting to eat at Vida and Comida for quite a while. I love their food and wish there were more authentic Spanish restaurants and chefs around my homes. I feel that Spain has taken over the spot of “top countries for innovative cuisine.” I’ve always been a fan of paella and flan, but have recently come to enjoy many newer and more creative dishes coming out of Spain. Not only are their best chefs cooking in the larger cities, but are training under great chefs like Arzac in smaller towns like San Sebastián. For many years the top table in the world was I Bulli, an hour south of Barcelona. Spanish cuisine is becoming ever more cutting edge.

So I feel fortunate to have a great chef nearby at Vida and Comida.

We started our meal with a very tender piece of Grilled Octopus which is traditionally served with potatoes. This chef served it over some of the creamiest mashed potatoes I’ve ever had. The presentation was quite attractive.
As often occurs when we dine out, we start eating a dish before I have photographed it. The Artichokes with Serrano Ham were served with a slightly spicy sauce made with some kind of peppers and, I believe, tomatoes.
We had a slight misunderstanding with our waiter who brought us out a different appetizer of crusty bread coated with garlic and covered with Serrano ham. When we told him we didn’t order that dish he apologized and told us to keep it on the house, a very gracious and hospitable gesture on his part.
One of my favorite foods is Rabbit, when it’s well prepared. This Braised Rabbit with Lentils and Rabbit Jus was delicious, moist and tender. The Lentils and Sauce were perfect complements.
Barb really enjoyed her Tile Fish which was served with Crabmeat Risotto. I ate the risotto and she asked for a side of vegetables. They were pleased to accommodate her request.
Something I truly enjoy, but seldom find is a Decaf Espresso. They had it and I enjoyed it.
Once again, we didn’t wait for a photo before starting our Apple Tarte dessert. This Apple dessert was a perfect finish to a wonderful meal.

Vida and Comida is BYOB. The servers are quite pleasant and very accommodating. The manager, Tim, is thoughtful and makes sure everything is just right. When you are lucky enough to find them serving Sweetbreads as a special, you must try them. This restaurant serves top-notch, innovative Spanish food and I look forward to my next meal there.
