Bowman’s Tavern in Washington’s Crossing

Our friend Mike is a bachelor this week while his wife, Lynne, is in Florida. Barb and I decided to try out Bowman’s Tavern which serves a great burger (according to our friend John). Called Mike who was happy to drive and, hence, we had a designated driver. Bonus!

Mikey and I shared the Baked Beans with Bacon. Deeee-licious!
I ordered two appetizers. The first was Pork Belly with a Latka of some sort. I felt it going to my heart and calcifying. Excellent!
My second app was Ricotta Gnocchi. This is one of my very favorite dishes when made well. These gnocchi were light, ethereal. The sauce was was alien and delicious.
Barb ordered the Eggplant Enchilada which was really tasty and not made with Masa or flour. She was thrilled.
Mikey had the Cheeseburger with fries, his idea of gourmet cuisine. His was perfectly prepared and made him very happy..

The chef at Bowman’s has worked there for several years. He’s a CIA graduate and has created a very innovative menu with lots of interesting twists on the usual dishes.
They have two bars there and very often have live music. It is not a byob, but their wines by the glass were very reasonably priced and generous pours.
I felt bad when the previous occupant, the Forager House, closed and the chef moved away. I have now found a great reason to return to this spot and will do so often in the future.
They do good business, so I recommend a reservation. They also had valet parking which was a real asset the night we went.
