Kristine’s: a French Bistro in Princeton, NJ

Last night our place to try was Kristine’s in downtown Princeton. We went with our friends, Vince and Claudia. The cuisine was French, as was the chef who did his training in the area of Lyon, France. He’s a very likable guy who meanders around the restaurant, checking to see if you’re pleased and suggesting wine choices that would work with your meal. The wine list is well thought out with plenty of affordable choices. Many of the whole bottle selections are also offered by the glass.

Barb and I started by sharing the Quail Lollipops. They were made with some excellent mushrooms in a light sauce. We enjoyed them as a teaser. Both of us ordered sizable entrees, so these were a perfect start..

Vince and Claudia started with the Steak Tartar They were big fans.

Both Barb and Claudia enjoyed their Trout entree. It was a sizable portion, served with string beans almondine.
I truly enjoy eating Cassoulet whenever I get the chance. This one was nicely made with pork belly, duck confit and a sausage. The white beans were tender and the gravy was excellent.
Vince apparently enjoyed his Scallops and Seafood au Gratin. The dish was served with a side of french fries. I believe he enjoyed it because he made all gone except for the fries.

The servers were all very nice. They were attentive and and seemed well-informed. The food took a very long time to come out. I’m not sure why that happens, but I figure it has to do with labor shortages.

All in all we had a very pleasant experience at Kristine’s. The food was good, the servers were pleasant and the company could not be beat. It’s a good place to go for French food if you are a fan, as am I.
