Tony’s Sushi and Steakhouse in Ocala, Florida

This is the second time that we stopped in Ocala, Florida on our way down to Naples. Lucky for us, the Hampton Inn we stayed at had just undergone a very nice upgrade. The sushi restaurant we enjoyed previously was also open, so we popped over for a nice meal. We remembered liking it on our last stay, but enjoyed it even more this time. As usual, I forgot to take timely pix at the start of the meal, but got it together after we started eating.

Here is the bottom half of a very good miso soup with excellent depth of flavor and not too much salt. We really liked it.

This is the end of a very good Saketini.
This warm appetizer was Sautéed Spinach with Shiitake Mushrooms. I only got to taste a little because Barb freaked on it and wolfed down most of the dish.
The Spicy Conch and Cucumber app was my favorite, mostly because I got to eat some of it (Barb loved it, but kindly permitted me to have my fair share.). It was quite spicy, but “addictive “, leaving a yearning for another big portion.
Barb loves Naruto which has no rice, but is still a sizable roll. This one has a good piece of tuna and made her very happy.
The Deluxe Sashimi plate was full of very fresh, beautifully presented fish. It consisted of all higher quality sashimi slices, partial belly yellowtail, no mackerel (at our request) and came with a soup or salad. It was a really super entree for us to share.

Since I’m a sushi hog, I needed to order a couple of extra pieces for myself:

This plate contained two things I need to eat when available.
This piece of eel sushi was perfectly cooked and covered in a nice sweet eel sauce.

These two pieces of sushi had Ikura (salmon caviar) and Quail egg. It’s a most wonderful taste.
They had Amaebi (sweet shrimp) and embellished it by stuffing and roasting the shrimp heads. The heads were perfectly crunchy and the raw shrimp were, in fact, sweet and delicious.
This is a close-up of one of the same amaebi.

This is Mike, Tony’s brother. He keeps an eye on everything happening in the restaurant and shmoozes the customers. When you want something off the menu, he makes it for you if he’s got the ingredients. He’s a very likable guy.

When you are in the Ocala area, I highly recommend a visit to Tony’s if you are a fan of sushi. It was every bit as good as any place we have found in the Princeton area.
