Oy..Such a Deal!!

From time to time I’ll post a wine that I have liked and considered a great value. The basis for this opinion is simply that I think it drinks like a $60 bottle but has cost me only $19 to $25. I often go into wine stores and ask if they have any bottles that I can steal. You’d be amazed at how many wine merchants know just what I mean and direct me to a special bottle.
A regular source of impressive wine “steals” is Costco. They send people who know wines all over the world and somehow fenagle (sp?) ridiculous bargains that they pass on to their customers. If you’re secure enough to open and share a wine with a Kirkland label, find a Costco that has a wine and liquor department and check out a few.

I’ve been enjoying this $7.99 sweetheart for several years. It’s a consumate New Zealand style Sauvignon Blanc. Big on the grapefruit flavor. Don’t like the “pomplemousse “? Check out their actual Sancerres that come in at higher prices, but remain good values.
I’m a big fan of Spanish wines. The Tempranillo grape is the foundation of plenty of wines that pair well with lots of food. And the blends from most regions are extremely good values. This puppy is actually a “Reserva”, making it a step above the everyday Consechas. The painful damage: $7.99. Yowza!
Feel like something bubbly and a little pink and don’t want to give up the farm? This $7.99 Prosecco bottle fulfills your wishes. Like most bubblies, it’s got 11% alcohol, but the bubbles can deliver a bit of a an unexpected buzz.

If you’re looking for something harder to mix into your cocktails, try the American vodka. It’s an absolute steal at $13.99 for 1.75 liters.
And don’t get me started on their Rotisserie Chickens. But that’s something I’ll talk about another time. Cheers, skoal, and l’chaim!
