We have been dining at Blue Point Grill for many years. It was always worth the shlep from Bucks County. The food, mostly fish and seafood, is always the freshest. They have a retail store next door which sells lots of great seafood, including hard to find items like Black Cod (Sablefish), West Coast oysters and Sardines from Portugal. Most of these goodies end up on their restaurant menu. It has always been byob. This keeps the bills somewhat more affordable, considering the price oftheir entrees.
Part of the ambiance of the restaurant is the very pleasant outdoor seating, both covered and uncovered. They have a second floor outdoor patio as well as a comfortable inside dining room. On Wednesday nights they have a very mellow jazz trio playing musical standards. Now that we live in the area, we certainly have no excuse not to frequent this restaurant.
Since we love the food here and consider it upscale, we tend to go a little deeper into our wine collection. Good Pinot Noirs go with everything and Burgundy reds are wonderful matches for seafood and sushi. This puppy was a wonderful find at about $27.We had opened this Cote du Rhône (Viognier) the night before and I felt it would be a very nice pair for the fish and seafood at Blue Point. We shared our abundance of wine with the staff who truly appreciated it.I love fresh Sardines which are not commonly found in US restaurants. These came from Portugal and were perfectly grilled and served with some Portuguese olive oil.The mixed grill special that night was Artic Char and Alaskan Sablefish. Both were grilled perfectly, rarish per my request. I asked for a little salad as my side. This dish was a “home run!” I’m sure you’ve noticed that Barb frequently orders Grilled Octopus. This one is consistently among the best she gets.Being a healthy eater and, likewise, a cheap date, Barbs second dish was a side dish of Roasted Brussel Sprouts. These veggies were perfectly roasted and somewhat caramelized. $9 for her main dish. And they made her very happy and contented. My glazed Bread Pudding was dense and delicious. All of their desserts looked good. This one was made in house. Our server, Jessica, was a delightful young lady who knew the menu well, made good recommendations and was very friendly throughout the meal.
Blue Point Grill is not what you’d consider a gourmet restaurant. The service is not formal, though it is always attentive and the servers are well informed about their fare. No one hovers nearby, but your water glasses are always kept full. The food is always fresh and delicious and served in a comfortable and timely manor. All in all, I currently consider it the best place in Princeton to enjoy a casual and perfect dinner. Bring your better wines because you’ve now found the ideal place to enjoy them.
