Mi Espana in Robbinsville…an even better experience.

The owners of Mi Espana in Princeton have been quite successful with their “hole-I’m-the-wall” Spanish restaurant. We have been enjoying it for the past two years, going frequently when we were looking for something casual, not too pricey, byob, and spur of the moment. I have loved the oxtail and Barb loves the octopus. They have ridiculously great soups served in very large bowls , plenty for two to share. Their flan and almond torte desserts are both generously portioned and delicious.

Last month they opened a second location in Robbinsville. It is much more spacious than their first location and the kitchen is considerably larger making it possible for them to prepare and offer many more options. We went to check out the new location last week and were impressed by the larger menu as well as the sizable, less crowded dining area.

We started with the Piementos de La Capitaine which were perfectly fried in oil, crisped but not oily. Usually about 1 in 10 will be very spicy, the rest mild. We fell in love with this dish many years ago in Spain. The spicy pepper makes it a sort of “Russian Roulette” appetizer. Fun and yummy.
Barb ordered the Grilled Octopus app. She switched out the usual potatoes for a very generous potion of fresh veggies. The dish pleased her palate and filled her belly.
They offered Beef Cheeks as an entree, which I jumped on. The rule of thumb is that the cheek of any animal, be it beef, pork or fish is always the tastiest and most tender part of the animal. This dish was wonderful and served with a great sauce and perfectly cooked rice. They also offered oxtail prepared the same way as their other restaurant.

The menu included several Paellas, soups and even more desserts than the original location.

We went deep into our 20 bottle wine cellar and pulled out these two tasty and terribly expensive wines that that we had opened the previous two nights. We enjoyed both with our dinners.

I encourage you to check out this new option for casual dining in the area. Planty of parking is available in this smallish shopping center. Best of all is the authentic, passionately conceived Spanish food created by a passionate chef from Spain. The price is right, it’s byob and great fun to visit with friends. Make sure you save room for desserts. You’ll be happy that you did.
