It’s been quite a while since I last got very excited about a wine that I purchased. I’m a huge fan of Pinot Noirs, especially those from the Santa Rita Hills. This region produces many great Pinots. As a rule, they tend to be very fruit forward with lots of cherries and cassis, my favorite tastes in any wine.
This Morgado Cellars came up on an excellent website that I’ve been sourcing for the past year. It’s called Wineslash.com. They offer lots of wines at discounts ranging from very small to quite a lot. As with all wine sites it’s important to do your due diligence researching the real prices of the wines and checking reviews. Their service is excellent. They let you buy a case of wines over time and when it’s complete they ship it for free. Or you can ship smaller quantities for a reasonable fee. Their follow up and customer service is also excellent.
So when this wine came up last month, I checked it out. Their price was $33. The winery’s suggested price was $70. I found it somewhere else for $65. This was a no-brainer, so I bought 2 bottles. Last night we enjoyed the first bottle with a superb French meal of salad, fois gras terrine, frog’s legs and sweetbreads at Cafe Normandy in Naples.
My only regret is that I only bought 2 bottles instead of 6 or 12 and they are now out of stock on this beauty. Such is life.
