Jules @ Market in Bristol, PA

Since moving to New Jersey Barb and I have stopped going to several places we have enjoyed in the past. Jules @ Market was an especially good place for us during the pandemic when we still lived in Bucks county. They had expanded outdoor seating and acceptable spacing between their indoor tables. Their food was always very good and it was (and still is) byob.

So when we scheduled a dinner with Ronnie and Abby who live in Northwest Philly, we needed a place that would be great and not too far from either of us. Bristol has easy access to both the PA turnpike and route 95. Good for our friends. For us, Bristol isn’t too far from Rt 1. This trip was well worth the 45 minute drive for both of us. The meal was wonderful and the company even better.

Point of reference: I was an usher at their wedding 100 years ago.

Ronnie and Abby: lifelong friends.
Abby always shows up with an excellent red wine. This was a blend from California and was perfect. It was about 15.5% alcohol and not at all “hot”.
I planned on having a few $3 oysters, so I brought the perfect wine to pair with them. Limestone terroir with ocean minerals. Surprise: on Wednesday nights they do “buck a shuck”, one of my favorite experiences. So we ordered 36 oyster and I ate half.
So where are the 36 oysters. Of course I ate a dozen before I remembered to take a picture. I can tell you that the platter was beautifully presented, every oyster shucked perfectly with the tendon severed. I asked the chef if she could show me a small platter of oysters for a photo and she went to town making a small platter.
She garnishes each oyster with a little something.
This little beauty was treated to some Mignonette.
Abby and I both ordered Crabcakes which were the best I’ve had all summer. A ton of jumbo lump and almost no filler.
Uncle Ronnie ordered the Ti Snapper for his entree which he loved.
Barb’s Bronzino came with a Burnt Eggplant sauce. She was thoroughly pleased.
We ordered a side of fingerling potatoes which were crispy and a little bit spicy. Very good.
We also ordered a side of grilled asparagus. They were perfectly grilled, tender and not it all “woody.”
I ordered the Key Lime pie which was slightly tart, served with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. Yum!
Ronnie’s dessert was Lemon Posset. Great crust with a tart and fruity center.

The tables of all sizes are set with a sort of understated elegance.

People come to Jules @ Market from as far as New York because it is a destination restaurant. The servers are all attentive, not doting. I would judge the restaurant worthy of a Michelin star. It’s worth the shlep from wherever you are.
