We returned last night to our favorite Mexican restaurant in Naples. It has the most authentic Mexican cuisine we have enjoyed year after year. Most evenings they have a grill outside where they cook lots of different meats and create brilliant tacos. The great majority of their customers are Hispanic, often arriving as large family parties. Most of their customers ordering sounds to be in Spanish, but the servers always accommodate us by speaking English. They have a bar that offers beers and a few cocktails.
I usually bring my own wine because their wine list is very limited and, honestly, not deserving of their food.Over the years their corkage has ranged from zero to $20. Last night we paid a $20 corkage to enjoy this Sauvignon Blanc with our meal. Notterrible for Naples. They startedour meal with some freshly made Tortilla chips made in house, warm and delicious. They also presented some fresh Pico deGallo, loaded with cilantro. These two salsas were delivered. The green one was quite tasty, not too hot. The red one had a short delay before the burn kicked in. Barb ordered the Fish Ceviche made with Talapia. Lots of avocado, cilantro and onions. She loves it.I am a fan of their Chile Rellenos. Their plattercomes with two of your choosing along with rice and refried beans. I had one with beef and one with cheese. They were both amazingly good and the dish was enough to fill me up.The Chiles were served with corn tortillas.I may have been full, but I somehow made room for most of these Churros. They were warm, served with chocolate and plenty of whipped cream. Perfect for sharing. Our server, Edith, was very patient and helpful. She answered all our questions and guided us through the many options offered on the menu.
Los Molcajetes usually offers freshly shucked oysters, which for meis an absolute plus. I inquired when their oysters for last night had arrived and Edith checked and told us they had been there for 3 to 4 days. Probably not a problem, but I opted out.
This restaurant has served us wonderful meals time and time again. I’ve even met people there for breakfast and loved their egg dishes. Our friends are always pleased with their meals here.
I recommend you give it a try when you are hankering for some tasty authentic Mexican cuisine.
