We drove up to the Catskills this past weekend to celebrate Barb’s brother’s birthday. Happy Birthday Joel. Lets remember that 75 is the new 65. He’s looking great and doing minimal kvetching.
Joel’s son and daughter in law, Mike and Lana, have a great house in a lake near Montecello with plenty of rooms. It’s down the road from Woodstock. There’s a great museum and music venue. If you get there, stop in and tour the museum. It brought back great memories for me.
Mike and Lana picked out a couple of fun and unique restaurants for us to enjoy. Both allowed BYOB with minimal charges. Every place is casual, so no dressy clothes are necessary in the area.
Our second night found us at Kevin’s in Rock Hill. It was a cute place with both indoor and outdoor seating. The kitchen was partially open There were plenty of servers and ours, a lady named Sam, was great at helping out 8 people with totally diverse palates and appetites.
Rick ordered a wedge salad, hold the blue cheese. It appeared deconstructed, but he liked it.This was a Mediterranean salad that I got to photograph, but not taste. The other side of the table made all gone.Thankfully Mike had the good sense to order two of the Kevin’s shrimp and clam apps. My tastes were great and I did my best to drink as much broth as possible. I may have embarrassed myself. The Fried Asparagus made it once around the table before getting finished off at my spot.As expected, I was reminded of this delicious dish the next day.Barb and Lana both ordered the Orange Roughy with Shrimp. They both enjoyed.Rick ordered the half rack of ribs.He kindly gave me one which was very tender with excellent sauce. The birthday boy ordered French Pork Chop Calabrese and somehow finished it off. I believe this was the Scallops Napolitano. Not sure who ordered it, but it never made it to my plate. The Jaeger Shnitzel was made with pork, served with a wonderful mushroom gravy and an enormous fried mashed potato ball. Since it was my entree, I got to enjoy most of it before it was hustled away and devoured by my dining partners. Everything is fair game at my dining table. The Chicken Picatta looked great and was consumed before I could get a taste. This is another shot of my Shnitzel.A motley crew that I’m proud to claim asmy family.
I somehow missed the Tuna Tower as both a photographer and an eater. I was told that it rocked.I also forgot to photograph our desserts, a Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie and a Five Layer Chocolate Cake. I did eat them both and enjoyed, especially the Chocolate cake.
So if you get up to the Catskills and are looking for a nice spot to relax and enjoy some really good food, reserve atable at Kevin’s. Ask for Sam.
