Osteria Saporino in Huntington Valley

Last minute plans for dinner with Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Abbie. We met them between our homes at an excellent BYOB that we frequented before Covid. It’s good to be vaccinated and getting back to regular dining out. We still favor outdoor dining, but it’s more an Al Fresco thing than a “saving your life” thing.

Abby keeps a well stocked wine cellars do I, so we always go BYOB when we go out with them.

That’s my Uncle Ronnie hiding behind a nice selection of wine. We were lightweights that night and only drank two half bottles: the Cab and the Chianti.
Ronnie had this very generous and tasty Antipasto.
Abby and Barb shared the Burrata app which I hit hard. Wonderfully creamy and smooth cheese. I believe that was Capanata underneath with a nice Balsamic drizzle.
The grilled Octopus and Calamari were served with Fennel, Arugula and a light, slightly acidic dressing. Perfect.
Both Barb and Ronnie had the whole grilled Branzino. The whole fish. The size of both fish was very generous. Barb loves to filet and pick through the whole fish. They both had steamed veggies on the side.
I had the Softshell Crab special. Sautéed perfectly and I ordered a side of Capellini with garlic and oil.
Abby had the Eggplant Parm, which she really enjoyed with a side of pasta in red sauce.

They offered a nice selection of desserts. We were full, so we passed and just had some decaff Cappuccino.

I’m very fond of Saporino. The food has always been superb and the servers are always friendly, thoughtful and informative.

I highly recommend this place. It’s been a while since I last posted. This is because I never post bad reviews. I’m not an official restaurant reviewer. Therefore, any place I post will be at least very good. The mediocre restaurants we’ve experienced in the previous week will hopefully get their acts together. We did go to an excellent Korean restaurant in North Jersey. It was with my grandsons who deserve my full attention, so I don’t bother them with my food photos and blogging.
