The Blue Bottle Cafe in Hopewell, NJ

Went out last night with our friends Zola and Sue. We chose to go to my favorite restaurant in the entire region. That includes Hopewell township, Princeton, Bucks County, Hamilton township, Hunterdon and Mercer counties. That’s saying a lot!
The owners, Rory (in front and baking) and Aaron (hanging in the kitchen) have been feeding people quite well here since 2006. Their culinary pedigrees are quite impressive.

They serve very high end, imaginative cuisine for very reasonable prices and allow you to BYOB. I’m thrilled that the restaurant has survived the pandemic and will continue to please palates for years to come.

Sue and Barb both had the Arugula salad. (Not pictured). They were very happy with it.

Zola and I both had the house made Gnocchi with Spring veggies: peas, mushrooms, red onion, asparagus and truffle brown butter. Yum!
My entree was pan roasted Pekin Duck Breast with Frakeh Pilaf, Carrot Honey Purée, Green Beans, Roasted Scallions, Radish and Orange Duck Jus. (I wonder where they found an orange Duck.)
Barb had the Pan Seared Scallops with Truffle Celery Root Purée, Roasted Trumpet Mushrooms, Asparagus and Dijon Beurre Blanc. I stole most of her purée because it was freaky amazing.
Sue’s Pan Seared Fillet of Salmon pleased her greatly. It was served with Pemaquid Mussels, Baby Carrots, Green Beans, Fingerling Potatoes, and Artichoke Barigoule.

Zola had an enormous Boneless Ribeye with Fingerling Potatoes, Mushrooms, Creamed Swiss Chard and Natural Reduction.
For dessert three of us split the three Profiteroles, stuffed with Caramel Sea Salt Ice Cream, Hot Fudge and Caramel
.

As you can tell by the descriptions, every dish at Blue Bottle is well thought out and executed. You never walk out hungry. The service is casual, but perfectly attentive. And best of all, it’s byob. I always bring the “good stuff” from my cellar.

If you are anywhere near Hopewell, NJ, I strongly recommend you book a table at Blue Bottle. If you’re nowhere nearby, I strongly recommend you still book a table and bring someone who loves to drive. You’ll be glad you went.

  1. Always a favorite for us. Usually with you. Interestingly, a good friend of mine here at Hunters Run used to live near Princeton and often went to the Blue Bottle Cafe. We didn’t know him and his wife back then, but there’s a decent chance that we were dining there at the same time on many occasions. We agreed that it was “go to favorite” (about 6 months ago).
