Oishi in Newtown

Had a great dinner with our friends Gary and Jodi last night at Oishi in Newtown. It’s byob with a minimal corkage fee of $4 or $5 for one bottle and $7 for two or more. Their sushi is always pristine and their chefs’ creations are very innovative. Their presentation is very appealing, reminding me that we eat with our eyes as well as our mouths.

Gary is checking out the Crunchy Cucumber hand rolls. One had Salmon and the other had Tuna.
I ordered the Korean Dumpling Soup which was just great. I usually order the Oishi Spicy Soup, but the hot day caused me to go a little milder with soup.
Avocado Oishi was a refreshing salad dish.
These Edamame would have lasted 20 seconds had our grandchildren been at the table. We consumed them in a leisurely 3 minutes.
I love going byob with Gary. He always shows up with out of this world wines. This one was a blend of Roussane, Viognier, Chardonnay and Marsanne. Very “Cote-du-Rhone blend” from California.

Barb and Jodi are big fans of rolls made without rice. Oishi has several on their menu and often create new ones upon request.
The sashimi is all top quality. They usually have Uni on hand, which is my favorite exotic sushi item. I love when they add a Quail Egg. It makes for a decadent, rich bite of yumminess.
Oishi is a truly great BYOB sushi and Korean restaurant. It’s been around a long time and is the favorite of most sushi fanatics in the Newtown area.
