Pelican Bend on the Isles of Capri

The first place we go for dinner every year upon our return to Naples is Pelican Bend. It is a family owned, simple and convivial restaurant. Many of the servers are somehow connected to the owners or are the owners. The food is consistently good, always fresh and tasty. Their Hush Puppies are down home, just made, and delicious. Their chowder is New England style and downright delicious. Their beer and wine are simple, reasonably priced and never ”high-falutin’ (did I spell that correctly?). The Prime rib is good, sometimes great, never expensive, and always filling. Their soft shell crabs are always fun, plenty of garlic and nicely portioned.

The Seafood Chowda is always a great starter.
Since I’m kinda high-falutin, I always bring a bottle of wine. Their corkage fee is a very reasonable $10. I like to share some with our server.
All of the entrees include a wedge of lettuce served with home made dressing. The favorite is the house creamy garlic. My favorite is the Bleu Cheese which is as good as many steak house versions.
This is the dish that Pelican Bend is best known for. They call it White Roughy. We’re not sure what it actually is, but when you get it pan-sauteed it’s tasty as hell and plenty generous. Most guests get this dish over and over again.
The baked potato is always included and can be replaced by other options like baked sweet potato, french fries, or the daily fresh veggie. I love a baked potato with butter and sour cream and chives.

My dinners at Pelican Bend have always been a pleasure. The ambiance is down-home, the staff is always welcoming and gracious, the pace is just right: seldom slow without being rushed. The line is usually out the door. Come early and add your name on the wait list. Then wait outside in the dockside enclosed bar. Have a beer or a glass of wine. Or bring your own and be a little high-fallutin. (Has my spelling improved?)

Oh yeah, did I mention the Key Lime Pie and other desserts?

Don’t miss this place when you’re anywhere near Marco Island or East Naples.
