Peacock Inn , Princeton, NJ

We’ve been hearing about the Peacock Inn for many years, knowing it has changed owners and chefs several times. It has supposedly been the finest place to dine in Princeton, but nobody we knew has ever gone. Now that we live in Princeton, we have heard more from friends and acquaintances who have really enjoyed it and thought it was time for us to check it out.

Last week our new friends, Lyn and Art, recommended that we give it a try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

After we ordered, they brought us out some very fresh bread with sweet butter and a couple of tasty dipping sauces. Very nice and included with the meal. (This photo and several others by Lyn Hughes)
The octopus two ways was served with a Romesco sauce as well as a Ragu with Saffron. Barb ordered it and gave me two tastes which I enjoyed. Photo by Lyn.
This Carpaccio was a combo of Tenderloin and Lobster. It was tantalizing to my tongue.
Lyn ordered to Mushroom Consommé which included corn dumplings and herbs.
This very cool presentation involved pouring the consume over the dumplings and other ingredients. A very cool shot captured by Lyn.

Art’s heirloom tomato salad was enhanced by Bleu Cheese and anchovies. My taste was quite delicious.
For my entrée, I ordered the Grilled Brace of Quail. In English: two pigeons. The Breast meat was wonderfully delicate aand the legs (so cute) were scrumptious. Excellent gravy.
Art and Lyn both ordered the Halibut with Tomato curry, ginger and Maitake mushrooms. They both enjoyed there dish.
Barb ordered and enjoyed a Ratatouille Terrine. It was presented beautifully and tasted great. Another photo by Lyn.

The dessert menu was very appealing, but we were all too full to order any.
The manager/Sommelier, Chris, was very helpful in guiding us through the wine choices. He picked out a very fairly priced Beaujolais as well as a tasty, slightly acidic Italian white. (Should you choose to byob, there is a $40 corkage.)
The ambiance in the outside dining area was very peaceful. The table was simply but beautifully decorated. Our servers were all very nice, well informed and timely in their delivery of this meal.

We are absolutely sure to return for future meals at the Peacock Inn. It reminded me of many meals we have enjoyed at Relais and Chateaux establishments in rural France. The bar is clubby looking and can accommodate people who choose to stay and dine there.

The whole experience was comfy, happy, welcoming and delicious. I highly recommend the Peacock Inn for a special occasion or just a nice romantic night out.
