Thesen Asian Noodle Bar in East Naples

A few nights ago Barb and I decided to try out a new place very near to our home in Naples. We have been enjoying Thai food in the Princeton area this year, so we were happy to hear about a new local place down south. We were amazed to find that Thesen has been here for over three years. I have no idea how it’s been off my radar for so long.

We popped over and got a table with no problem. It’s still “pre-season” down here for one more week, so we pretty much get into anyplace we want. Fun! Of course that ends after Christmas.

Thesen Asian Noodle House is both a Thai and Sushi restaurant. They have a full bar and just adequate wine list. I’d recommend bringing your own bottle if you are into better wines. Their corkage fee is a reasonable $20.

The restaurant has a pleasant, ambiance and nice decor. They have a nice drink menu and several Sake options.
We ordered some hot sake that served a decent portion that we shared. ($13)

We started with an appetizer of Tuna Tataki that I forgot to photograph. That’s a shame because it was attractive as well as delicious.

I have learned that Thai restaurants often serve Wonton soup that is always better than what I get at Chinese restaurants. The depth of flavor in the broth here was wonderful. The wontons were tasty, but just a little dense.
Barb ordered the Seafood Ceviche. It was a very generous portion, really tasty and deftly prepared so as not to be overly acidic.
For an entree Barb ordered the Thai Sautéed Shrimp in Basil Sauce. It was served with a side of white rice. She really enjoyed her dish.
My “test dish” in Thai restaurants is always a red or green curry with crispy duck in a mild to medium sauce. This curry was absolutely perfect. The duck was crispy without being dry and overcooked. The curry was coconut creamy and perfectly spiced. It had a nice kick and left my tastebuds intact.

We will definitely be returning to Thesen for future meals. Our server, Julius, was very nice and eager to please. A young woman named Ellie seems to be the manager and checked on us several times. They are flexible with the menu and willing to make changes when requested and reasonable. They are open for both lunch and dinner, 7 days a week.

On our next excursion I will be bringing a Pinot Noir if we are craving sushi or something “spicy” like a Shiraz, Zinfandel or Gewurtztraminer if we are thinking curries. Either way, I’m sure we will have another super meal.
