Lemon- a two year follow up

For the third year straight we recently met our friends Sol and Carin at Lemon in Freehold. There are many other options for dining halfway between Deal and Princeton. We simply have outstanding meals at Lemon, so we stick with this place.

I reviewed Lemon two years ago, but decided to give it a “boost” at this time.

(Please forgive the yellow tint in the pictures. They had a yellow lamp at our table. I will try to improve them when my friend Lyn returns from her vacation next month.)

These were stuffed peaches filled with crabmeat and Gorgonzola and a port wine reduction. They were fabulous.
This was a spinach casserole served with grilled shiitake mushrooms, caramelized onions, lamb bolognese and goat cheese. Simply outstanding.
Barb and Carin both had Branzino, sautéed with with shiitake mushrooms, green olives and oven roasted tomatoes. Barb had her side changed from risotto to caponata.
Carin changed her side for risotto to string beans.
Sol had the Fish Tagine. He’s had it here before and really likes it.
I had this Braised Lamb Shoulder with Majadra and finished with a pomegranate ginger sauce. It was “fall off the bone” tender and unbelievably tasty. It was enough to feed two of me. I’ll be repeating this order again.
I saved room for this rice pudding that came with ice cream and,I believe, currents. The dessert was smooth and yummy.

If you follow this blog, you’ll have noticed that I haven’t been posting new places recently. It is not for a lack of trying. Most of the new places we have tried out have been mediocre at best. I refuse to give bad write-ups to restaurants because I am not being paid to damage someone’s reputation or harm a small business. I want my blog to promote restaurants that are very good to excellent, places that I have personally enjoyed and feel comfortable recommending.

So I hope you continue to follow this blog and share it with your friends. You can be sure that I will continue to work at ferreting out the good places to dine and serving as a reliable filter.
