K.J. Asian Bistro on Marco Island

Kathy and Joe from the team at Thai Sushi by KJ have opened a new restaurant on Marco that was previously Su Garden Chinese restaurant. They are still offering Chinese cuisine and have added a full sushi bar serving the same excellent sushi options from Thai Sushi. To guarantee that the sushi remains up to snuff, Joe is spending most of his evenings in this new spot. For their Thai offerings, you’ll have to go to the original location. But if you have a yen for some Chinese food, I recommend you try out this new restaurant.

As I’ve mentioned before, I feel that the pork wonton soup by Thai chefs is almost always better than traditional Chinese. The broth has a tremendous depth of flavor lacking in the Chinese version.
Barb ordered the KJ Ceviche which is an exact duplicate of that served at Thai Sushi. The dish is loaded with a great variety of marinated seafood and large enough for Barb to consider as a main course.
One of my favorite sushi items is Ikura, salmon eggs, enhanced with a quail egg. It was a delicious appetizer or “Amuse Bouche” for my meal.
I photographed this dish after I started chowing down. I ordered the Roast Pork Lo Mein, a Chinese dish I have loved for years. For a level of spiciness, they offered it in some degree between 1 and 5. I chose a 3. It started a bit spicier than I initially expected, but ended up perfect for my palate. This dish was also quite generous, leaving me enough to enjoy at home the next evening.
I usually close out my meal at sushi bars with a few additional treats rather than dessert. A couple pieces of Salmon sushi were a nice addition to my meal.

Barb and I closed out our meal with some Yellowtail sashimi. The presentation was beautiful and the artistonally sliced Yellowtail was super fresh, delicate and satisfying.

They offer a full bar and wine list at K.J. Asian Bistro. They also have a $15 corkage fee if you choose to BYOB. All in all, we had a very pleasant evening and this Bistro is a welcome addition to the restaurant scene on Marco Island.
