Elite Five Sushi and Grill in Princeton

Last week Barb and I chose to eat sushi on our 42nd anniversary. If we want to do it right, guaranteed in Princeton, we go to Elite 5. They have all the great stuff that other places don’t offer. The prices are just a little bit high, but it’s BYOB which saves big time. I’ve reviewed this place in the past, but it deserves a second mention.

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ve seen a lot of this wine. I get it online at WineSlash. It costs $35, lists generally for $65-$70. As long as they keep carrying it, I’ll keep buying it. Several different sources and vintages. All have been great. Lots of upfront fruit (cherries and cassis), gentle tannins, never harsh or bitter. A dinner at the James Beard House 20 years ago taught us that Pinot Noir matches best with sushi. Who am I to argue the point.
Wait…what happened to those 6 perfectly dressed oysters. I’m guessing Barb had 2 and I had 4. Scrumptious!
Two pork belly skewers. Sweet, tender perfect pieces of deliciousness. None for Barb.
This beautifully presented plate of a la carte choices included some Uni, Amaebi (including stuffed and cooked heads), Ikura with quail egg sushi and a Lucky OnFive roll, no rice. A tasty treat that we made “all gone”.
Our normal sushi meal usually includes something like this, a Sashimi Supreme. It never hurts to ask for all belly slices. We lucked out this evening and received all belly yellowtail and salmon and near the belly tuna. This was super satisfying sashimi.

So now you know where to go. Don’t forget the Pinot Noir.
