Vecchia Osteria by Pasquale in Newtown

Went out last night with our friends Mike and Lynn. Always a treat to be in their company. They came to our house first for happy hour and Mike brought his drill to wipe my mobile drives. He’s a man with skills!

We got to the restaurant and, though we wanted to enjoy their wonderful outdoor dining, were too late to get a choice spot outdoors. The inside is nice and the ambiance is very pleasant. As always, we ran into good friends enjoying themselves.
It’s also very nice that it’s a byob, so brought a couple of yummy bottles. One was a “Lynn Selection” from last years State Store choices: a $9.99 Spanish wine that knocked my socks off.

Mike started with an order of long hots. They came with a nice salad. A love/hate dish for me, because I’m a hot pepper wimp. Everyone else just loved it.
The ladies split an Arugula salad. You are looking at Half of an enormous salad. Nicely and lightly dressed.
We all shared the mussels in a marinara sauce. Really tasty and very fresh. No funky seafood here.
MIke and Barb both got the Lemon Chicken. He got the potato side and Barb switched hers out for a green veggie.
I’ve been Jonesing for a big heavy pasta like Cacio e Pepe. The didn’t have it, so I got the Spaghetti Carbonara. WOW! I added a bunch of black pepper and ended up with a great plate of hybrid pasta which made me truly happy.
Lynn ordered a Chicken dish with cheese (perhaps Sorrentin) and veggies, not Parmigiana. My taste was exquisite.

The service here is always casual, pleasant and never snooty. We’ve been enjoying this restaurant for many years. It’s always best to dine outside for their very special setup. My favorite meals have been Sunday lunches when Pasquale has been enjoying a meal with his family and permitted us to meander in before service has begun.
A great place to enjoy when you are in or around Newtown.
