Bistro 821 in Naples, FL

We haven’t eaten on 5th Ave at all this year. Whenever we drive by it looks really crowded. The traffic barely moves. Whenever I’ve called, all the tables have been booked. The online menus show much higher prices than in the past. Less places offer reasonable corkage fees.

Yet lots of good places remain open and thriving. And everything, everywhere is more expensive. And it remains one of the most beautiful streets I’ve ever seen.

So last night we decided to go to Bistro 821 with our friends Tom and Fernanda.

Recently returned from two years in Italy, our friends are ready to chow down with us.
I love that Fernanda has a weakness for Mac and Cheese. This side dish gave me an opportunity to enjoy a couple bites of ”the world’s most perfect food.”
Both Fernanda and Tom ordered Chilean Sea Bass. The portions were quite generous and served with beautiful asparagus so they may be reminded today that they ate something healthy for dinner. Not quite sure what it was served over, possibly polenta.
Barb ordered the Sole, lightly crusted, served with Broccoli Rabe. She was impressed with her dish.
Wild Boar Bolognese is one of my favorite Italian dushes. This one had large chunks of boar that were very tender and really tasty. It was topped with some chilled, creamy ricotta which creamed up the dish. Of course I added a little grated Parmagiano because , well how could that hurt?.

We had enjoyed some cocktails and cheese before we left home which left no room for appetizers or desserts.

Service was excellent by our waiter, Rob. The outdoor scene was “5th Ave Cool” with plenty of interesting people watching. The food is, as it’s always been delicious and beautifully presented. The cocktails and wines were generous pours and fairly priced.

Bistro 821 has been a consistent ”go-to” for us for several years. We are thrilled that it has remained a great place to dine in a friendly environment. I’m happy to continue recommending this restaurant confidently.

  1. Everything looks great esp the mac and cheese. Like presentation of fish on polenta. But that’s one expensive wild boar pasta.
