Our friend, Mitch, turned us onto Sal DeForte’s a couple of years ago. We have since been there a few times and liked all of our meals there. Barb has been enjoying the Branzino special, which seems always to be available. I have been exploring the different dinner options and have yet to find any dish lacking. One important point that I love is that it’s byob.
Last week we had an opportunity to have a dinner at Sal DeForte’s with Mitch and his girlfriend, Donna. We had a great evening, enhanced by good company and pleasant conversation.
Mitch and Donna looking Mah-velous!They serve a fresh herbed bread with your meal.Mitch has been watching his weight, so he brought a non-alcoholic beer to accompany his meal. I annoy him by telling him that it’s beer for people who ”like to pee.”They include a very nice small salad with the option of added bleu cheese at no charge. Mitch ordered one of the night’s specials: Seafood over Angel Hair Pasta. He raved about his dish.I have been ”Jonesing” for some Carbonara lately. Although it wasn’t on the menu, they were happy to make me some Spaghetti a la Carbonara. They didn’t have any Pancetta on hand, but substituted it with a nice smoky bacon. I really enjoyed it. The portion was enormous, so I also enjoyed it the next night as part of a frittata.Donna asked for the Branzino, but was reluctant to get it as a whole fish . No problem, they brought her out the fish filleted. She was very pleased .Barb, as always, ordered the Grilled Branzino whole with only veggies” When served she went to town on her fish. And after Barb went to town, this was what was left.
We had no room for dessert, so we passed on the several home made offerings along with the Bindi desserts which they import from Italy. Next time.
Mitch also let us know that Ewing has many more excellent dining options which we hope to enjoy in the near future. It’s always great to know a local who loves to dine like we do. We are looking forward to exploring the area which seems to have replaced the old Chambersburg section of Trenton.
Another great NJ place with whole branzino. Living now in Fl and Wi with rare whole fish and no free byob.
